All ten Day Masters

Yang Metal (庚) Day Master: Steel

In saju, the Korean form of the Four Pillars, your Day Master is the Heavenly Stem of the day you were born. It stands for you in your chart, and there are ten of them. Yang Metal, written 庚 (gyeong in Korean), is the seventh, and here we call it Steel. Saju is a cultural tradition and a lens for reflecting on yourself, not a science, so read what follows as tendencies to try on rather than a verdict.

Raw metal, not yet polished

Picture a bar of metal fresh from the ground: heavy, solid and untouched by any craftsperson. It does not bend easily, and when it is given an edge, the edge lasts. That is the image behind Steel. People with this Day Master often describe a matching style: clear, firm and quick to see what needs deciding.

Metal is the element of structure and standards, and yang is its outward, forceful form. Its yin sibling, the Gem (辛), is metal that has already been cut and polished, fine and sensitive to detail. The Gem refines. Steel tends to push the whole thing forward. You may act first and polish afterwards, and you are often the one who says "let's just decide" when a group keeps circling.

What Steel tends to do well

Steel is often at its best when things get tangled. You may be able to say no clearly, which saves everyone time, and to name the real issue in a meeting while others are still being polite. People tend to know where they stand with you, and that steadiness can be a quiet kind of trust.

A sense of fairness runs through much of this. You may notice when something is not even-handed and be willing to say so, and you tend to keep your word, sometimes even when it costs you. In everyday life it looks simple: the friend who picks the restaurant, the colleague who shows up exactly when they said they would.

There is a gentle flip side worth knowing. The same directness that earns trust can land as a cut in rooms that needed the soft version first, and a high standard can turn on yourself, so that good enough rarely feels finished. Adding one sentence of why to a decision, or one word of appreciation before a correction, often keeps the edge useful without dulling it.

Steel among other people

You tend to bring honesty and a sense of loyalty to friendships. Others may come to you when they want a straight answer, and you often respect people who return the favor. Your care can be hard to see from the outside, because you show it through reliability more than through words.

With other Metal people, things can get honest fast. You recognize each other quickly and build loyal bonds that need little upkeep. Two strong blades can also clash, though, and a disagreement may turn into a contest over who bends first. It helps to give each person a clear area of their own and to remember you are on the same side. In close relationships, letting someone see the thinking behind a firm answer often does more than the answer alone.

What steadies Steel

In the Five Elements, Earth feeds Metal, the way ore forms slowly inside the ground, held and pressed over time. For Steel, Earth often looks like steady footing: a routine that does not keep shifting, people who stay put, a place that feels like home base. You may recharge less through excitement and more through stability, such as learning step by step, a solid meal or a quiet weekend. When the ground feels firm, your edge tends to come back on its own.

Metal in turn gives rise to Water, the way cool metal gathers drops on its surface. That is a good picture of how you tend to express yourself: clean, spare, said once. And Fire is the forge. Rules, deadlines and real responsibility can be the heat that gives a strong raw material a purpose. You may resist pressure at first, since you like your own way, yet a fair challenge often brings out some of your best work.

One Day Master is not the whole chart

Your Day Master is the center of your chart, but it is only one part of it. Your other pillars, the balance of the Five Elements and your ten-year cycles all shape how it shows up, so two Steels can look quite different: some quiet, some bold, some already well forged.

One thing to try

This week, when you give a firm answer, add one sentence about why you landed there. Then pick one small decision you have been putting off and simply make it, and notice how it feels.
