All ten Day Masters

Yang Fire (丙) Day Master: the Sun

In saju, the Korean form of the Four Pillars, your Day Master is the Heavenly Stem of the day you were born. It stands for you in your chart, and there are ten of them. Yang Fire, written 丙 (byeong in Korean), is the third, and here we call it the Sun. Saju is a cultural tradition and a lens for reflecting on yourself, not a science, so read what follows as tendencies to try on rather than a verdict.

A sun that rises over everyone

Picture the sun coming up over a wide valley. It does not pick which houses get light first; it simply rises and everything in view is warmer for it. That is the image behind the Sun. People with this Day Master often describe a similar style: open, direct and warm in a way others can feel from across the room.

Fire is the element of warmth and visibility, and yang is its broad, outward form. Its yin sibling, the Flame (丁), is closer to a candle or a lamp, lighting a small space steadily for a few people. The Sun works the other way. It spreads out, lights up everything at once and does not mind being seen. Whatever you feel tends to show on your face, which makes you easy to read and easy to trust.

What the Sun tends to do well

Suns are often generous, enthusiastic and quick to get a room moving. You may be the first to say hello on a new team, or the person who makes a dull meeting feel lighter. Because you say things plainly, people rarely have to guess where they stand with you, and many Suns share credit, ideas and good moods without keeping score.

When things go quiet, you are often the one who starts them again. Your optimism can make a hard plan feel possible.

There is a gentle flip side worth knowing. A light that shines on everything can leave little time for any one thing, and bright enthusiasm sometimes runs ahead of the details. Pausing now and then to finish what you started is a way of keeping the light steady.

The Sun among other people

Your warmth tends to make people feel welcome quickly, so you may collect friends and acquaintances easily. The other side is that your openness can be mistaken for closeness with everyone, and a few people may wish for a longer, quieter moment with you than a busy day allows.

Other Fire people, Suns and Flames alike, are your peers, and you often recognize them fast by the same spark and the same quick laugh. Two Suns in one room may both reach for center stage, though. Taking turns leading and cheering usually works better than competing for the spotlight. In close relationships, asking questions and staying for the answer, not only sharing your own energy, tends to make people feel seen as well as warmed.

What feeds the Sun

In the Five Elements, Wood feeds Fire. For a Sun, Wood often looks like learning something new, having a mentor or simply being looked after for once. Because you give out so much warmth, it is easy to forget that you need fuel too. A good book, real rest, a teacher who stretches you or time near trees and growing things can all count as Wood in your day.

Fire in turn feeds Earth, which in saju is grounding: something solid that your energy leaves behind. For a Sun, that might be hosting people, teaching, starting a project others can build on, or turning a good mood into a plan. Your warmth often feels best when it has somewhere to land and lasts a little longer than the moment.

One Day Master is not the whole chart

Your Day Master is the center of your chart, but it is only one part of it. Your other pillars, the balance of the Five Elements and your ten-year cycles all shape how it shows up, so two Suns can look quite different depending on what surrounds them.
